Canadian Chickpea Area Seen RisingVANCOUVER - Mar 12/10 - SNS -- In its latest monthly review of Canadian chickpeas Agriculture Canada's market analysis branch in Winnipeg predicts seeded area could reach 178,000 acres this year, compared to last month's 148,000 acre prediction. It is important to note this is not an official forecast, nor is it based on actual grower survey. This has the potential for production to total 94,000 MT, versus 76,000 last year. Agriculture Canada pegs exports for 2009-10 at 60,000 MT and is forecasting exports will reach 53,000 in 2010-11. Domestic use is forecast at 68,000 MT this season and at 38,000 for the coming marketing year. Season ending stocks are forecast to finish the 2009-10 season at 15,000 MT; while they could finish the coming marketing year at 25,000 MT.
