Mixed Week on Birdseed Markets

VANCOUVER - Feb 26/10 - SNS -- Birdseed ingredient markets managed a mixed finish in light trading activity during the past week, as grower selling interest slipped behind the short term needs of the market.

SunPrairie Grains's Jeremy Burkhart worries about the underlying tone of agricultural commodity markets in general.

"If crude is higher and the dollar lower than the commodities trade 10 higher and visa versa if crude is down and the dollar stronger than commodities trade 10 lower," he said. "So with my rambling on I am trying to say that our commodities are trading more on outside factors than on commodity news.

"Overall the markets long term still feels bearish and what we would need to turn this around would be some kind of disaster in the grain world to get things excited again. The next big news that we will be watching is the planting intentions report on March 31st and it will be interesting to see what numbers the government will come out with. We are still recommending you should be getting some new crop priced."
