Canada's Flax Council Gets $5.9 Million

OTTAWA - Feb 12/10 - SNS -- The Flax Council of Canada will receive up to CDN $5.9 million from the federal government for varietal research and efforts to test for contamination of export cargoes by genetically modified flaxseed.

The Flax Council of Canada is receiving $4 million to develop a new herbicide tolerant Canadian flax variety; and up to $1.9 million to develop sampling and testing methods to identify the presence of genetically modified flaxseed in Canadian flax exports.
