U.S. Pulse Inventories Jump

WASHINGTON - Jan 12/10 - SNS -- Available supplies of pulses were up sharply in the United States at the beginning of December, reports the USDA.

Pulse crops stored in all positions on December 1, 2009 and the change from December 1, 2008 are: dry edible peas, 10.7 million cwt (100 pound units), up 55%; lentils, 2.67 million cwt, up 61%; Austrian winter peas, 119,000 cwt, up 80%; all chickpeas, 875,000 cwt, down 18%; small chickpeas, 303,000 cwt, up 98%; and large chickpeas, 572,000 cwt, down 37%. Small chickpeas are defined as peas that will pass through a 20/64 inch round hole screen.
