WASHINGTON - Mar 31/09 - SNS -- Lentil seedings in the United States are expected to total 375,000 acres, up 38% from 2008 and 24% above two years ago, according to the USDA.
Idaho, Montana, and North Dakota anticipate higher planted acreages this season, while Washington shows no change from a year ago.
Farmers in North Dakota, the largest producing State, intend to plant 140,000 acres of lentils this year, up 47% from a year ago and 27% above two years ago. Acreage in Idaho and Montana is expected to increase from last year by 45% and 51%, respectively.
