Canola Crush Down, Soybean Up

WINNIPEG - May 31/02 -- STAT -- The Canadian Oilseed Processors Association (COPA) reports weekly crush in that country totalled 29,271 metric tons (MT) of canola and 35,881 MT of soybeans during the week ending May 29.

The numbers, as reported to the association by member firms, dropped 24.2% from last week's level for canola, while rising 5% on the week for soybean.

The latest numbers continue the roller coaster ride for weekly crush numbers, with canola dropping after advancing last week; while soybeans managed to advance for three consecutive weeks.

So far this marketing year, 1,952,642 MT of canola has been crushed, down from 2,569,033 for the same period last year. Soybean crush since the August 1 start of the 2001-02 marketing year totals 1,432,482 MT, just ahead the 1,412,878 MT crushed during the same period last year.
