Canada's Weekly Exports 238,200 MT

WINNIPEG - May 24/02 - STAT -- Export clearances of all grains and oilseeds shipped from Canada total 16,703,000 metric tons (MT) so far this marketing year down 3,813,000 MT from the 20,516,000 moved last year.

The latest report from the Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) summarized weekly product movement through licensed primary and terminal elevator facilities for the week ending May 19.

Grower deliveries during the week included 106,600 MT wheat; 51,600 MT durum; 3,900 MT oats; 28,600 MT barley; 100 MT rye; 12,000 MT flax; 40,700 MT canola; and no corn.

The CGC pegged total exports during the week at 238,200 MT . On the grain side this included including 147,100 MT wheat; 44,000 MT durum; 2,500 MT oats; 2,400 MT barley; no rye; and no corn.

Exports so far during the 2001-02 season total 9,861,600 MT wheat down 649,900 from 10,511,500 MT last year and 2,675,200 MT durum down 132,100 from 2,807,300 MT last year.

Coarse grain export clearances so far this season total 769,500 MT oats down 140,900 from 910,400 MT last year; 815,900 MT barley down 816,900 from 1,632,800 MT last year; 8,800 MT rye down 36,000 from 44,800 MT last year; and 56,300 MT corn up 8,200 from 48,100 MT last year.

Oilseed exports now total 2,058,900 MT canola down 2,034,000 from 4,092,900 MT last year and 456,800 MT flax down 11,400 from 468,200 MT last year.

In addition, Statistics Canada indicates exports to the United States: 282 100 (271 900)  MT of Oats, 39 800 (31 200) MT of Rye, 8 000 (11 500) MT of Flaxseed, 16 300 (9 300) MT of Canola and 100 600 (43 600) MT of Corn between August 2001 and January 2002. Year ago figures are shown in brackets.

Shipments of oilseeds to domestic customers totalled 2,300 MT flax and 40,200 MT canola during the week. This lifted season to date totals to 456,800 MT flax down 11,400 from 468,200 MT last year; and 2,002,800 MT canola down 459,000 from 2,461,800 MT last year.

Domestic grain shipments included 49,300 MT wheat; 4,000 MT durum; and 2,500 MT oats. So far this year domestic buyers have taken 2,858,400 MT wheat up 312,600 from 2,545,800 MT last year; 698,500 MT durum up 144,900 from 553,600 MT last year; and 478,600 MT oats up 54,800 from 423,800 MT last year.

Other grains sales to domestic buyers include 40,700 MT barley; 100 MT rye; and 4,200 MT corn. Domestic purchases for the 2001-02 marketing year now total: 1,915,200 MT barley down 622,000 from 2,537,200 MT last year; 114,400 MT rye up 99,500 from 14,900 MT last year; and 84,300 MT corn down 2,600 from 86,900 MT last year.
