W.G. Thompson IP Systems Approved

WINNIPEG - May 21/02 - STAT -- Identity preservation (IP) systems used by W.G. Thompson & Sons Limited were audited by the Canadian Grain Commission and certified to be compliant with two standards.

The company is in compliance with the British Retail Consortium and Food and Drink Federation 2001 Technical Standard for the Supply of Identity Preserved Non-Genetically Modified Food Ingredients and Product; and the Canadian Soybean Export Association's Approved Identity Preservation Standard (Rev. 1 - August 23, 2001).

The CGC audited W.G. Thompson facilities at Belnheim, Granton, Hensall, Mitchell, Pain Court and Seaforth, Ontario.

The Canadian Grain Commission is now offering an audit service for identity preservation systems to the grain industry in Ontario and Quebec through its Bayport regional office in Chatham, Ontario. It is aimed at grain marketers and handlers in Ontario and Quebec who need to identity preserve grain shipments for international or domestic customers.

This new service is patterned after the ISO certification process and will include a desk audit of procedures, an on-site audit, spot-checks throughout the year, and audit reports. Upon the successful completion of the audit process, companies receive a certificate from the CGC confirming the validity of their IP systems.
