Canada's Weekly Exports 390,500 MT

WINNIPEG - May 17/02 - STAT -- Export clearances of all grains and oilseeds shipped from Canada total 16,464,800 metric tons (MT) so far this marketing year down 3,421,500 MT from the 19,886,300 moved last year.

The latest report from the Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) summarized weekly product movement through licensed primary and terminal elevator facilities for the week ending May 12.

Grower deliveries during the week included 180,300 MT wheat; 45,200 MT durum; 9,500 MT oats; 43,000 MT barley; 400 MT rye; 8,800 MT flax; 68,800 MT canola; and no corn.

The CGC pegged total exports during the week at 390,500 MT . On the grain side this included including 257,900 MT wheat; 81,100 MT durum; 6,700 MT oats; 9,000 MT barley; no rye; and no corn.

Exports so far during the 2001-02 season total 9,714,500 MT wheat down 420,900 from 10,135,400 MT last year and 2,631,200 MT durum down 3,100 from 2,634,300 MT last year.

Coarse grain export clearances so far this season total 767,000 MT oats down 139,400 from 906,400 MT last year; 813,500 MT barley down 812,000 from 1,625,500 MT last year; 8,800 MT rye down 33,400 from 42,200 MT last year; and 56,300 MT corn up 8,300 from 48,000 MT last year.

Oilseed exports now total 2,018,400 MT canola down 2,027,700 from 4,046,100 MT last year and 455,100 MT flax up 6,700 from 448,400 MT last year.

In addition, Statistics Canada indicates exports to the United States: 282 100 (271 900)  MT of Oats, 39 800 (31 200) MT of Rye, 8 000 (11 500) MT of Flaxseed, 16 300 (9 300) MT of Canola and 100 600 (43 600) MT of Corn between August 2001 and January 2002. Year ago figures are shown in brackets.

Shipments of oilseeds to domestic customers totalled 400 MT flax and 41,000 MT canola during the week. This lifted season to date totals to 455,100 MT flax up 6,700 from 448,400 MT last year; and 1,962,800 MT canola down 448,000 from 2,410,800 MT last year.

Domestic grain shipments included 75,000 MT wheat; 6,000 MT durum; and 6,700 MT oats. So far this year domestic buyers have taken 2,807,200 MT wheat up 320,600 from 2,486,600 MT last year; 694,400 MT durum up 146,400 from 548,000 MT last year; and 475,100 MT oats up 53,600 from 421,500 MT last year.

Other grains sales to domestic buyers include 40,500 MT barley; 100 MT rye; and 4,100 MT corn. Domestic purchases for the 2001-02 marketing year now total: 1,874,500 MT barley down 578,900 from 2,453,400 MT last year; 14,300 MT rye down 400 from 14,700 MT last year; and 80,100 MT corn down 2,800 from 82,900 MT last year.
