MUMBAI - May 14/02 - STAT -- India's exports of meals derived from crushing oilseeds totalled 201,450 metric tons (MT) during April, well above the 130,877 MT shipped during the same month last year, according to the Solvent Extractor's Association of India (SEA).
Meal exports during the opening month of the country's marketing year are typically lower than those during the previous quarter. This year was no exception, with shipments well below the 423,150 MT exported in March and the monthly average of 443,125 MT reported during the opening quarter of the 2002 calendar year.
Shipments so far this calendar year total 1.53 million MT, a solid improvement over the 912,785 MT shipped during the same January to April period last year.
There was no change in the proportions of each type of protein meal shipped, with soybean dominating exports, followed by rapeseed meal, with sesame and groundnut meal jostling for the number three spot.
