Fertilizer Prices Plunge in Saskatchewan

REGINA - May 13/02 - SNS -- Price input surveys by Saskatchewan Agriculture and Food have found fertilizer costs in the province will be sharply lower this year than was the case last year.

According to the report by Saskatchewan Agriculture, Food and Rural Revitalization, the price for Urea dropped 30%, followed by sulphate costs falling 13% and phosphate costs down 5%.

The survey also reported the price for diesel fuel was unchanged from March, 2002, with the price of bulk gasoline rising by 15%, and pump gasoline rising by four%.

Prices for cobalt salt blocks came in the same as prices from the March survey, with prices for one-to-one minerals up by 15%.

The Farm Input Price Survey Report is produced monthly by Saskatchewan Agriculture, Food and Rural Revitalization to provide farmers with current information about prices for key crop and livestock production inputs.
