Canada's Weekly Exports 299,000 MT

WINNIPEG - May 3/02 - STAT -- Export clearances of all grains and oilseeds shipped from Canada total 15,504,800 metric tons (MT) so far this marketing year down 3,133,500 MT from the 18,638,300 moved last year.

The latest report from the Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) summarized weekly product movement through licensed primary and terminal elevator facilities for the week ending April 28.

Grower deliveries during the week included 236,700 MT wheat; 80,600 MT durum; 12,100 MT oats; 58,200 MT barley; 500 MT rye; 6,800 MT flax; 108,200 MT canola; and 6,200 MT corn.

The CGC pegged total exports during the week at 299,000 MT . On the grain side this included including 176,300 MT wheat; 28,300 MT durum; 7,900 MT oats; 24,500 MT barley; 300 MT rye; and 3,400 MT corn.

Exports so far during the 2001-02 season total 9,227,400 MT wheat down 232,700 from 9,460,100 MT last year and 2,466,300 MT durum up 46,000 from 2,420,300 MT last year.

Coarse grain export clearances so far this season total 636,000 MT oats down 260,700 from 896,700 MT last year; 762,000 MT barley down 688,100 from 1,450,100 MT last year; 8,800 MT rye down 33,500 from 42,300 MT last year; and 53,100 MT corn up 5,400 from 47,700 MT last year.

Oilseed exports now total 1,906,400 MT canola down 2,003,800 from 3,910,200 MT last year and 444,800 MT flax up 33,900 from 410,900 MT last year.

In addition, Statistics Canada indicates exports to the United States: 282 100 (271 900)  MT of Oats, 39 800 (31 200) MT of Rye, 8 000 (11 500) MT of Flaxseed, 16 300 (9 300) MT of Canola and 100 600 (43 600) MT of Corn between August 2001 and January 2002. Year ago figures are shown in brackets

Shipments of oilseeds to domestic customers totalled 4,800 MT flax and 40,600 MT canola during the week. This lifted season to date totals to 444,800 MT flax up 33,900 from 410,900 MT last year; and 1,889,400 MT canola down 460,100 from 2,349,500 MT last year.

Domestic grain shipments included 58,900 MT wheat; 9,800 MT durum; and 7,900 MT oats. So far this year domestic buyers have taken 2,515,400 MT wheat up 117,700 from 2,397,700 MT last year; 637,600 MT durum up 91,800 from 545,800 MT last year; and 451,500 MT oats up 66,300 from 385,200 MT last year.

Other grains sales to domestic buyers include 36,500 MT barley; 100 MT rye; and 1,900 MT corn. Domestic purchases for the 2001-02 marketing year now total: 1,743,200 MT barley down 554,800 from 2,298,000 MT last year; 12,900 MT rye down 1,400 from 14,300 MT last year; and 73,000 MT corn down 1,300 from 74,300 MT last year.
