Kidney Bean Exports From Argentina Open On Weak Note

PANAMA - Mar 27/24 - SNS -- Shipments of kidney beans for Argentina posted significant declines, slumping versus the previous month in January, the most recent data from Instituto Nacional de Estadistica y Censos shows.

Exports for the opening month of the calendar year totalled 14,056 metric tons (MT), down 32% from 20,749 MT the previous month. The data showed movement was down 51% from the 28,511 MT reported during the same month last year.

Italy was the most important destination, receiving 3,059 MT. Brazil was the second most important importer taking 2,832 MT, followed by Spain at 2,055 MT.


Chickpeas Eye N.A. Situation

PANAMA - Mar 22/24 - SNS -- Kabuli chickpea markets finished the week's trading on an uneasy note against expectations there will be an overall increase in plantings in Canada and the United States.

Based on a survey of 9,600 farmers between December 14 and January 22, Statistics Canada said growers plan to seed 400,000 acres of chickpeas this year, up from 315,500 last year and well aove the previous five year average of 292,200 acres.

Intended plantings in the United States will be known when the USDA releases its estimates on March 28, but there is a general expectation area will likely increase.
