PANAMA - Aug 2/24 - SNS -- North American field pea markets finished the week's traiding with a moderately easier undertone against reports of initial harvest progress in North America and more substantive progress in the Ukraine and other parts of Europe.
As the week got underway, an estimated 9% of the U.S. crop was in the bin, compared to 5% last year and the average of 12%. Average yields suggest at least 66,200 metric tons (MT) of new crop peas were available to processors in that country during the past week.
In Canada, neither Manitoba nor Alberta reported harvest activity at the start of the week. Saskatchewan said 1% of its pea crop was in the bin and another 2% ready to straight combine. Progress was limited to southern crop districts, with 1% of fields in the southeast in the bin, compared to 2% in the southwest.
