Chickpeas Keep Firm Tone

PANAMA - May 12/23 - SNS -- International chickpea markets maintained their relatively firm tone through the past week against tightening stocks of kabuli type product in North America and other regions.

North American markets were impressed by export data from Statistics Canada, which showed that for only the second time since 2002, more product was shipped between August and March than was produced.

At the same time, Canadian shipments during that seven month period set a record for the country, coming in around 167,000 metric tons (MT), double what was shipped during the same period during the 2022-23 marketing campaign and well above the previous five year average of 89,000 MT.
