WASHINGTON - Dec 31/23 - SNS -- American producers intend to plant a record high 2.27 million acres of canola in 2023, up 3% from last year's planted area, according to the USDA's seeding intentions estimates.
Compared with last year, planted area is expected to decline in five of the six major canola-producing States, with North Dakota representing the only State expecting an increase.
Planted area in North Dakota, the leading canola-producing State, is expected to increase 6% from last year to a record high 1.90 million acres. If realized, planted area will be 100,000 acres higher than the previous record high for North Dakota established in 2022.
