Chickpeas Seasonally Quiet

PANAMA - Jan 6/23 - SNS -- International chickpea markets remained seasonally quiet as the 2023 calendar year got underway.

Markets are continuing to pay attention to India's rabi season planting progress for chickpeas, with questions remaining about whether the expected decrease in plantings will be borne more by desi chickpeas, with kabuli area holding up because it is more export based.

Keen interest in planting mustard is now having an impact on chickpea plantings in India, with the combined area for kabuli and desi now sitting at 10.782 million hectares, down from 10.917 as of January 6 last year.
