Beans Maintain Quiet Tone

PANAMA - Jan 6/23 - SNS -- International dry edible bean markets maintained their quiet tone through the past week, with some markets remaining essentially closed due to the recent holiday season, and many North American traders waiting for next week's final production estimates for 2022 from the USDA.

As a result, the U.S. dry edible bean price index was unchanged on the week to close at 100.5. By contrast, the global pulse price index slipped 0.3 points to close at 100.9 while the Canadian index inched 0.2 points lower to finish at 102.6.

The global pulse index averaged 0.1% lower in December and down 16.8% from the same month last year at 101.26. The Canadian index averaged 102.75 in December, down 0.2% from November and 16.1% below year earlier levels; while the USA pulse price index managed to average 0.4% higher than November at 100.31, though down 16.8% from December of 2021.
