Kabulis And Desis Diverge

PANAMA - Dec 9/22 - SNS -- International kabuli chickpea markets maintained their firm tone through the past week, helped by doubts over the size of the Mexican harvest and potential import needs by the United States.

By contrast, desi markets weakened in the face of some harvest selling pressure from growers and weaker immediate demand for product to cover export shipments.

Significantly, ABARES reduced its harvest estimate for chickpeas from 621,000 metric tons (MT) in September to 595,000. However, available supplies were little changed at an estimated 1.031 million MT, versus 1.072 million last season but well above the recent five year average of 800,400 MT.
