WASHINGTON - Oct 12/22 - SNS -- Peanut production in the U.S. is forecast at 5.77 million pounds in 2022, down 1% from the previous forecast, and down 9% from 2021, according to the USDA.
Area harvested is expected to total 1.41 million acres, unchanged from the previous forecast but down 8% from 2021. Based on conditions as of October 1, the average yield for the United States is forecast at 4,090 pounds per acre, down 55 pounds per acre from the previous forecast, and down 40 pounds per acre from 2021. Record high yields are forecast for South Carolina and Virginia.
