Desi Chickpeas Holding Breath Over Demand

PANAMA - Sep 23/22 - SNS -- Kabuli chickpea markets maintained remained sideway during the past week, though international desi chickpea markets continued to ease in the face of slack demand from the Indian subcontinent.

The problem is clearly reflected in Australian export shipments. Between November and July to were just under 444,000 metric tons (MT), down from over 709,000 during the same nine period in the country's 2020-21 marketing campaign.

The implication is exports may not reach the 630,000 MT currently forecast for its 2021-22 marketing campaign, well down from the almost 879,000 shipped the previous season.
