USDA Lowers Rice Harvest Forecast
WASHINGTON - Sep 12/22 - SNS -- U.S. rice production is forecast at 165 million cwt (100 pounds units), down 6% from the previous forecast and down 14% from 2021, according to the USDA's latest production forecast.
Based on a thorough review of all available data, planted area is now estimated at 2.22 million acres, down 5% from the previous estimate and down 12% from the previous year. Area for harvest is expected to total 2,177 million acres, down 6% from the previous forecast and down 13% from 2021.
Based on conditions as of September 1, the average United States yield is forecast at 7,586 pounds per acre, down 41 pounds per acre from the previous forecast and down 123 pounds per acre from 2021.
