WASHINGTON - Jul 12/22 - SNS -- This year's citrus fruit harvest in The United States is expected to be down from last year, according to the USDA's latest crop production estimates.
Production of all classes of oranges could end up at 3.81 million tons, down 2% from the previous forecast and down 13% from the 2020-2021 final utilization
The United States 2021-2022 grapefruit crop is forecast at 370,000 tons, down 4% from the previous forecast and down 16% from last season's final utilization. The California forecast, at 4.00 million boxes (160,000 tons), is down 2% from the previous forecast and down 5% from last season.
The United States tangerine and mandarin crop is forecast at 836,000 tons, down 5% from the previous forecast and down 30% from the last season's final utilization. The California tangerine and mandarin forecast, at 20.0 million boxes (800,000 tons), is down 5% from the previous forecast and down 31% from last season.
The 2021-2022 United States lemon crop is forecast at 972,000 tons, down 1% from the previous forecast but up 17% last season's final utilization. The California forecast, at 23.0 million boxes (920,000 tons), is unchanged from the previous forecast but up 14% from the 2020-2021 season.
