Pea Market Unaffected By Canada's Seeded Area

PANAMA - Jul 8/22 - SNS -- Field pea markets continued to ease during the past week, with spot markets narrowing their spreads with new crop, unaffected by the fact farmers in Canada planted fewer peas than originally intended.

Statistics Canada said a total of 3.368 million acres were sown this year, down from an intended 3.551 million and well below last year's 3.82 million acres.

Markets were equally surprised by the May export data for Canada. Just under 100,000 metric tons (MT) of all classes of peas were exported during the month, making it the slowest month for pea export movement since 2201 and 2002.
