5th Lowest Wheat Area in U.S.

WASHINGTON - Jun 30/22 - SNS -- Farmers in the United States planted 47.1 million acres of all types of wheat, up 1% from 2021, according to the USDA's seeded area estimates for 2022.

If realized, this represents the fifth lowest all wheat planted area since records began in 1919. The 2022 winter wheat planted area, at 34.0 million acres, is up 1% from last year, but down 1% from the previous estimate. Of this total, about 23.5 million acres are Hard Red Winter, 6.86 million acres are Soft Red Winter, and 3.61 million acres are White Winter.

Area expected to be planted to other spring wheat for 2022 is estimated at 11.1 million acres, down 3% from 2021. Of this total, about 10.4 million acres are Hard Red Spring wheat. Durum planted area for 2022 is expected to total 1.98 million acres, up 21% from the previous year.
