Chickpeas Waiting For Area Reports

PANAMA - Jun 10/22 - SNS -- International chickpea markets maintained their relatively quiet tone during the past week, with markets starting to pay more attention to the growing season now that seeding in North American is essentially complete.

The focus is shifting toward the seeded area estimates due from the USDA and Statistics Canada within the coming month Market participants are keen to get a sense of the impact seeding delays and competition for area had on field use choices during May.

Australia released this year's production projections during the week. ABARES forecast a 28% drop in seeded area from 616,000 to 443,000 hectares and a 43% drop in production from 1.062 million to 606,000 metric tons (MT).
