Markets Mull India's Chickpeas

PANAMA - May 20/22 - SNS -- Chickpea markets remained somewhat mixed during the past week, reflecting logistical problems with container freight in many countries and moderately slow end user buying interest.

India's third advance estimates for its 2021-22 production cycle were not overly surprising for markets, though the numbers are considered high by many traders in that country.

Total chickpea output was pegged at 13.98 million metric tons (MT), a massive increase over the 11.91 million grown last year. There was no break down between desi and kabuli production. However, kabuli represents a small fraction of India's total chickpea crop.
