Birdseeds Maintain Firm Tone

PANAMA - May 6/22 - SNS -- Birdseed ingredient markets maintained their firm tone through the past week because of tight supplies and rapidly improving demand for North American sunflower as a result of trade disruptions caused by the war in Ukraine.

At the same time the perception of tight canaryseed stocks in Canada was affirmed by Statistics Canada's stocks in all positions report.

Stocks were pegged at 32,000 metric tons (MT) in all positions, down from 86,000 last year and well below the previous five year average of 73,600 MT. Estimated stocks on farms dropped from 73,000 to a just 14,000 MT, while those in commercial positions advanced from 13,000 to 18,000.
