Moderate Response To Seeding Intentions

PANAMA - Apr 29/22 - SNS -- International lentil markets were modestly easier in response to Canada's seeding intentions report.

Heading into the report, markets had mixed expectations about the direction for total seeded area. In the end, grower intentions feel short of the more optimistic forecasts, while moving ahead of those who thought total area would be little changed. As it stands, farmers said they plan to increase land in all classes from 4.030 to 4.486 million acres.

Statistics Canada did not break down seeded area by class, but given relative market performance it would not be surprising to see area in green increase at the expense of red. The proportion of land in red could drop from 74% last year to 66%, identical to the previous five year average.
