Lentils Remain Generally Firm

PANAMA - Apr 22/22 - SNS -- Lentil markets ended the week's trading on a generally firmer note as stocks believed remaining in Canada and the United States continue to tighten relative to prospective demand.

Markets will start paying close attention to seeding progress for India's summer or kharif season crops. Notably, the Indian government has set a production target of 29.55 million metric tons (MT) for pulses across the 2022-23 production cycle.

The target for all food grains in 2022-23 is 328 million MT and 41.34 million for oilseeds. The second advance estimate for 2021-22 came in at 316 million MT for all food grains, 26.95 million for pulses and 37.15 million for oilseeds. India's third estimate should come out at the end of May.
