Modest Firmness in Birdseeds

PANAMA - Apr 22/22 - SNS -- North American birdseed ingredient markets finished the week's trading on a moderately firmer note, helped by continued strength in grains and oilseeds.

There is some thought that seeding delays in parts of the United States because of cool and damp conditions could result in more sunflower being planted than currently intended.

Markets expected to see a significant increase in seeded area. Instead, growers say they plan to boost oil type sunflower area 8% over last year to 1.274 million acres, while boosting confection sunflower plantings 28% to 142,000.
