Modest Gain in U.S. Canola Area
WASHINGTON - Mar 31/22 - SNS -- Canola producers intend to plant a record high 2.16 million acres in 2022, up less than 1 percent from last year's planted area, according to the USDA's seeding intentions estimates.
Compared with last year, planted area is expected to increase or remain unchanged in five of the six major canola-producing States, with Montana representing the only State expecting a decline.
If realized, planted area in North Dakota and Washington will represent record highs. Planted area in North Dakota, the leading canola-producing State, is expected to increase 1 percent from last year to 1.76 million. If realized, planted area will be 10,000 acres higher than the previous record high for North Dakota established in 2021.
