Chickpeas Mixed In Light Trade

PANAMA - Oct 22/21 - SNS -- Global chickpea markets registered a mixed performance during the past week, with kabuli type holding their value while desi slipped as initial harvest activity gets underway in Australia.

Markets expect a significant increase in this year's desi output, while India hopes to see a solid increase in seeded area during the coming rabi planting season.

This puts some pressure on Australian exporters to maximize sales before the rabi harvests get underway in 2022. However, their ability to sell is being compromised by constant logistical problems because of high ocean freight rates and issues with container availability.
