Peas Ease Despite Bullish Data

PANAMA - Sep 19/21 - SNS -- International field pea markets continued to ease in limited trading during the past week, despite bullish production data from Canada.

Statistics Canada pegged that harvest at 2.527 million metric tons (MT) down from 4.594 million last year. If the number stands up, the country's available supply of peas would drop from 4.909 to 3.089 million MT.

Some market participants believe actual production is closer to 2.432 million MT, noting data from crop reporters in Saskatchewan suggests yields there will be closer to 1,260 pounds per acre than Statistics Canada's 1,390 pound estimate.
