Major Gains In Mustard Values

PANAMA - Aug 13/21 - SNS -- Mustard seed markets posted sharp advances during the past week over growing anxiety about yields.

Only 5% of the crop was harvested in Canada as of August 9, but initial reports from farmers clearly frightened processors and exporters.

Bids for brown mustard seed jumped 12% on the week, lifting to the a record high CDN 51 cents per pound for farmers dressed product delivered western Canadian processing plants. Yellow advanced 10% to 61 cents, still below the record 70.5 cents recorded in January and February of 2002. Only oriental was unchanged on the week.
