Mustard Posts Strong 2020-21 Finish

PANAMA - Jul 31/21 - SNS -- Mustard seed markets posted a strong week, with prices helped by deep worries over the yield potential of the crop in western Canada and growing areas in the United States.

Alberta Agriculture issues preliminary yield estimates for dryland crops in the province. Though an estimate for mustard was not provided, across the province yields are currently expected to be "42 points below the five and 40 points below the 10-year averages based on the current conditions."

The forecasts will be updated as more data becomes available, but the prediction suggests there is a chance mustard seed yields in Alberta could drop from 805 pounds per acre last year to just 442 this year.
