Supply Disaster Looms in Mustard

PANAMA - Jul 24/21 - SNS -- North American mustard seed markets maintained their upward trend during the past week over deepening worries about the size of crops in Canada and the northern United States growing area.

Until the harvest is fully underway, markets will not have a good sense of average yields. But, expectations are for a significant decline versus last year because of continued stress on plants from hot and dry conditions.

There is a growing expectations markets will be fundamentally short of mustard seed in the coming marketing year. This is reflected in prices offered to growers which advanced 4% on the week for yellow mustard, 3$ for oriental, but unchanged for brown.
