U.S. Spring Wheat Yields Falter

WASHINGTON - Jul 12/21 - SNS -- Production of spring wheat other than durum is forecast at 345 million bushels, down 41% from last year, according to the USDA.

Based on July 1 conditions, yields are expected to average 30.7 bushels per harvested acre, down 17.9 bushels from 2020. If realized, this would be the lowest yield since 2002 for the United States.

Area harvested for grain or seed is expected to total 11.2 million acres, unchanged from the Acreage report released on June 30, 2021, but 7% below 2020. Of the total production, 305 million bushels are Hard Red Spring wheat, down 42% from 2020.
