Pea Focus Shifting to New Crop

PANAMA - Jun 4/21 - SNS -- Field pea markets maintained a relatively firm tone through the past week, with spreads between old and new crop asking prices narrowing.

Seeding of this year's crop is advancing rapidly, with an estimated 84% of the U.S. crop in the ground as the week got underway, compared to 99% in Canada.

This has switched the focus to the condition of the crops, with Saskatchewan rating 7% of the crop in excellent condition, 60% good, 31% fair and 2% poor. By contrast, initial reports from the U.S. suggest 4% of the crop is in excellent condition, 38% good, 24% fair, 2% poor and 2% very poor.
