Chickpeas Firming On Demand Hopes

PANAMA - May 14/21 - SNS -- Worries over chickpea production levels in Mexico continue to support kabuli chickpea markets while ideas India will need to import desi chickpeas is adding support to that class.

Spreads between old and new crop desi chickpeas in Australia are relatively tight, reflecting grower unwillingness to participate in markets. This has offset a recent relaxation in short term demand from Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Markets are watching the actions of the Indian government closely. There is considerable pressure on it to remove barriers to pulse imports, including the elimination of all quantity limitations and import duties.
