Pea Markets Showing Nervousness

VANCOUVER - Apr 9/21 - SNS -- International field pea markets were little changed, with exporters remaining preoccupied with completing earlier sales to China and other destinations.

Movement from Canada remains relatively strong, with available stocks on farms now at the same percentage level as this time last year, with effective disappearance now estimated at 75%.

Some concerns are emerging because of reliance on China to consume a large part of each year's production. Reports the country's efforts to rebuild its hog herd have been affected by a new strain of African swine fever, with breeding stock losses reported at around 20% in some key regions of the country.
