Modest Weakness in Spot Lentils

PANAMA - Apr 9/21 - SNS -- Lentil markets ended the week's trading with a weaker undertone in the face of slowing spot demand and increased hand to mouth buying as importers try to move existing inventories before new crop product becomes available.

New crop lentil markets continue to be discounted to spot, reflecting optimism the current dry conditions and drought conditions across much of the growing area will be resolved by timely rains.

Seeding will start shortly in the United States and parts of western Canada. Typically, 11% of the Canadian crop is in the ground by the end of April, with planting progress passing the half way mark around the middle of May.
