Near Term Chickpea Demand Slowing

PANAMA - Apr 2/21 - SNS -- Chickpea pea markets posted a mixed finish on the week, with spot demand affected by the start of Ramadan and a shortened trading week because of the Easter weekend.

Australian exporters now report light and spotty demand from Pakistan for desi chickpeas, which would be expected to affect sales opportunities for small caliber kabuli product from Russia and other origins.

North American markets were not surprised that farmers in the United States intend to moderately increase land in chickpeas from 269,800 to 290,000 acres this year.
