Sharp Drop in Rice Seedings

WASHINGTON - Mar 31/21 - SNS -- Area planted to rice in the United States is expected to total 2.71 million acres, down 11% from 2020, according to the USDA.

Arkansas, the largest long grain rice-producing State, is expected to decrease long grain acres by 15% from the previous year. Compared with last year, medium grain acres are expected to decrease 11% and short grain acres are expected to decrease 5%.

California, the largest medium and short grain-producing State, is expected to decrease medium grain planted area by 9% and decrease short grain planted area by 5% in 2021.
