PANAMA - Mar 19/21 - SNS -- North American birdseed ingredient markets maintained their firm tone through the past week, with canaryseed and sunflower posting modest week over week gains while millet was unchanged.
Looking at recent price advances in grains and oilseeds, the U.S. Based National Sunflower Association noted, "The current price surge across commodities and strong product demand have led to nearby NuSun and high oleic sunflower prices sustaining market highs at the North Dakota crush plants.
"New crop oil sunflower prices are higher than a year ago at this same time with oil crushers still offering Act of God and cash contracts. Last year new crop prices were $17.85-$17.95 for NuSun with high oleic at $18.05-$18.25. This week new crop NuSun cash prices are in a range of $21.15-$21.25 up $3.30-$3.40 per cwt (100 pounds) with high oleic at $22.55-$22.70 which is $4.45-$4.50 per cwt higher versus last year."
