PANAMA - Jan 22/21 - SNS -- North American birdseed markets closed the week's trading on a mixed note, reflecting the influence of oilseed markets on oil type sunflower seed values.
Though nearby values are down on the week, they remain above year earlier levels despite the fact this year's 2.45 million metric ton (MT) harvest sets a new record for the United States. Confection sunflower output was also higher, nearly doubling to 165,595 MT.
Commenting on the situation, the U.S., based National Sunflower Association said markets are still "digest these figures and set market direction in the weeks ahead."
