Peas Maintain Firm Footing

PANAMA - Nov 21/20 - SNS -- International field pea markets maintained a relatively firm tone through the past week despite a seasonal slowing in export movement.

Off farm movement of peas is maintaining a good pace. As of November 15, Canadian farmers have delivered 39% of all peas they had available at the start of the marketing year, compared to 33% at the same time last year.

Effective disappearance is now an estimated 47%, up from 42% at the same time last year. This includes peas expected to be held back as planting seed plus potential movement into domestic markets. Domestic movement should improve as the new fractionation plants are licensed by the Canadian Grain Commission, allowing them to buy from directly farmers.
