India Speculation Helps Lentils

PANAMA - Oct 16/20 - SNS -- International lentil markets maintained their recent upward trend during the past week against strong export disappearance.

Though India's duty reduction on lentils is set to expire at the end of October, optimism it will be reinstated has fueled demand from the Indian subcontinent.

Of all pulses that can be readily imported by India, lentils are now the least expensive. More importantly, millers in India complain about limited availability of both domestic chickpeas and pigeon peas and are asking for duty reductions on a wider range of pulses.
