Demand Helping Lentils

PANAMA - Oct 2/20 - SNS -- International lentil markets maintained their firm tone through the past week, helped by improving short term demand from countries such as India, Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates.

That has fueled expectations among importers and exporters that prices are likely to maintain an upward trend through the balance of the marketing year.

Comments during the online lentil sessions of the week's virtual Global Pulse Confederation lentil sessions suggest farmers in several countries had become disillusioned with prices over the past year, with many setting price targets at which they would be willing to sell remaining new and old crop product on their farms.
