Strong Movement Supports Peas
PANAMA - Sep 18/20 - SNS -- Field pea markets are being supported by strong opening season movement, with the pace of bulk exports picking up over the opening weeks of the 2019-20 marketing campaign.
This is reflected in deliveries by Canadian growers into the bulk handling system. As of September 13, they totalled 27% of all peas estimated to be available on farms this season, compared to 18% at the same time last year.
The improved pace of harvest activity has been an influence, with this year's harvest starting the week at 80% complete, compared to 69% at the same time last year. The quantity of peas available on farms by the middle of September was up over one million metric tons (MT) from the same time last year.
